RE & PSHE

Helping children understand themselves, others and the diverse communities they are part of.

RE & PSHE

Overview

Our RE and PSHE curriculum supports children to develop respect, empathy and an understanding of the wider world. Pupils learn about different religions, beliefs and values, while also exploring important themes such as relationships, wellbeing, identity and responsibility.

How we teach

Lessons include discussion, storytelling, reflection and real-life examples that help children connect ideas to their own experiences. RE explores key beliefs and practices from major world religions, while PSHE supports emotional development, online safety, citizenship and healthy relationships. Teachers help children express opinions respectfully and listen to others.

Impact

By the end of Year 6, pupils can explain beliefs from different religions, understand similarities and differences and reflect on big questions thoughtfully. They show emotional awareness, respect for others and an understanding of how to stay safe, healthy and connected in their community.

How you can help at home

Talk together about feelings, friendships and making good choices. Visit places of worship or explore books about world cultures and beliefs. Encourage open conversations about wellbeing and kindness. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from those aspects of sex education that are not included in the national curriculum science orders and the relationships and health education guidance.  However this rarely happens, working in partnership with parents means they recognise the importance of this aspect of their child’s education. Parents do not have the right to withdraw their children from relationships education.
