Art & Design

Creative, hands-on experiences that help children develop artistic skills, confidence and imagination.

Art & Design

Overview

Our art curriculum gives children the freedom to explore ideas, develop technical skills and express themselves creatively. Pupils learn about a wide range of artists and artistic traditions while using materials and techniques that encourage experimentation and imagination.

How we teach

Children learn through practical activities including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and digital media. Teachers model techniques and build skills progressively, helping pupils talk about their work using artistic vocabulary. The curriculum includes opportunities to study artists and use their styles as inspiration for creative outcomes.

Impact

By the end of Year 6, pupils can use a range of techniques, evaluate their work and talk confidently about artistic choices. They understand how art communicates ideas and can work creatively, imaginatively and with increasing control.

How you can help at home

Offer simple creative opportunities — drawing, painting, building or crafting. Visit galleries, look at artwork online and encourage conversations about colours, shapes and styles.
