Geography

Children explore the world’s places, cultures and changing environments through an inquisitive, knowledge-rich geography curriculum.

Geography

Overview

Our geography curriculum teaches children about the world, its people and the natural and human processes that shape it. Pupils develop a sense of place, curiosity about other cultures and an understanding of how environments change over time.

How we teach

Geography is taught through practical exploration, mapwork, fieldwork and real-world case studies. Children learn to use atlases, globes, digital maps and compasses to build their locational knowledge. Topics explore physical geography — such as weather, rivers, mountains and climate — alongside human geography, including settlements, land use and trade. Teachers support children to compare regions, interpret geographical data and use subject-specific vocabulary confidently.

Curriculum maps

Impact

By the end of Year 6, pupils can interpret maps, use grid references and understand key physical and human processes. They compare regions effectively and recognise how people interact with their environment, including sustainability.

How you can help at home

Look at maps together, notice physical features on walks and discuss weather, travel or global events. Encourage your child to make connections to what they’re learning in class.
