Music is taught by specialist music teachers, ensuring high-quality progression from early years to Year 6. Children learn through singing, instrumental work, listening and composition. All pupils in Key Stage 2 receive whole-class instrumental lessons, giving them the opportunity to perform, improvise and develop musical understanding.
By the end of Year 6, pupils can read basic notation, keep a steady pulse, perform with confidence and talk about musical elements using the correct vocabulary. They understand how music conveys mood and ideas and can work creatively with others to compose and refine musical pieces.
Encourage your child to sing, listen to a range of music or explore simple instruments at home. Talk about the sounds they notice, rhythms they hear and how music makes them feel. Share your own favourite songs or playlists.
