Assessment

Assessment is the way we keep track of what children have learnt as well as the progress they have made.  Teachers continually assess children's learning so they can plan the next steps.  Children at Ivydale Primary School are encouraged to reflect and evaluate on their own learning (self assessment).  Assessment takes place in distinct ways:-

  • Ongoing assessment through marking and feedback

  • Teacher assessment through observations, marking of independent work such as half termly big writes

  • Formal testing takes place termly for children in Years 1-6 in reading and maths to support teacher's own assessments to inform future planning as well as enable us to track progress of individuals and groups.  During the summer term Years 2 and 6 sit Standard Assessments Tests while Year 1 have a phonics screening test.

Children in the Foundation Stage (nursery and reception) are assessed against areas of the curriculum using the Foundation Stage Profile.
